Yoga is an ancient art that aims to create union between body, mind and spirit, as well as between the individual self and universal consciousness. Such a union tends to neutralize ego-driven thoughts and behaviors with the aim of liberation from suffering and spiritual awakening.

Although each tradition of yoga has its own emphasis, most focus on bringing together body (asanas), mind (meditation) and breath (pranayama) as a means of altering energy and shifting consciousness.
